We get this question a lot. How often should you change your furnace filter? Our answer is that it depends... Our clients are often away from their Florida home for six months at a time. Some of our clients are completely blind when it comes to knowing if the system has been running or idle and for what period of time. It's easier if you. use a WIFI enabled thermostat where you can see the run history. We think that every two months is the sweet spot. Why? Because it's mid way between every month and every three months which are the most often quoted timeframes for changing filters. Keeping a clean filter in place can keep dust and debris from entering the system and causing premature system failure or poor performance at best.
Changing furnace filters is something we do at no extra cost to our home watch clients during a home watch visit when the filter is provided by the homeowner.
